Happy Friday!
Welcome back to The Weekly Roll! Take a look below to see what’s going on this week in cannabis and art:
Federal PTSD Study Moves Forward : After blocking approval for the study for three years in a row, the FDA has finally approved a Phase 2 clinical trial to analyze the potential beneficial effects of cannabis on veterans with PTSD. The Michigan Veteran Marijuana Research Grant Program, ‘MJP2’, will analyze 320 veterans with moderate-to-severe PTSD and measure the impact of inhaled THC flower. Phase 1 of the trial years ago included 76 subjects and showed improved PTSD symptoms including anxiety, depression, and sleep quality. Article
Georgia Expansion : The Georgia medical marijuana program is one of the most conservative and slow rollouts of legal cannabis we have seen to date, but it just crossed a big milestone. Now that at least 25,000 patients have enrolled in their medical program, the state can open up more licenses for medical dispensaries to serve the state. Currently, there are 13 dispensaries across 6 producers, and an additional license will be granted to each producer for every 10,000 medical patients that enroll in the program. There are currently no smokeable cannabis products allowed in dispensaries, only extracted THC products such as oils. Article
Interesting Number : $73.99. The average price of an ounce of flower in Michigan’s adult-use market during October. This fell $20 from September and is an incredibly low price as the flooded Michigan market continues to find equilibrium. Four years ago, an ounce averaged $287.92 in the retail market. There are around 900 dispensaries in Michigan right now which are struggling for footholds in the market which is a major factor causing this race to the bottom. Article
Recovered Masterpiece : In the late spring of this year, U.S. art dealer Allen Treibitz was at an estate sale in the Hamptons when he was struck by a painting hanging in a barn for the last 90 years. He bought it for $50 and soon discovered it was an original from one of British Colombia’s most famous artists, Emily Carr. The painting, titled Masset, Q.C.I, depicts an Indigenous memorial signpost from Masset, in B.C.’s Haida Gwaii archipelago. The piece sold at auction for just shy of $250,000 this week. What a find.
