The Weekly Roll August 22nd 2025

Happy Friday!

Welcome back to The Weekly Roll. I hope everyone had a lovely week! Here is what’s happening this week in cannabis and art:

Ohio Has Pre-Rolls! : Ohio has finally allowed pre-rolls (pre-rolled joints) to be sold in dispensaries, more than a year after adult-use cannabis sales began in the state. The change required approval from the Ohio Division of Cannabis Control, with at least one dispensary selling out of its initial stock within two days due to limited quantities. This move aligns Ohio with national trends, as pre-rolls have become one of the fastest-growing segments of the cannabis industry, accounting for over $4.1 billion in sales nationally between June 2023 and 2024. Guns and Weed : A federal appeals court ruled that restrictions preventing Florida medical marijuana patients from buying guns likely violate the Second Amendment. The 11th Circuit found the government failed to prove these patients should be treated as "dangerous" like drug addicts, saying the restrictions aren't consistent with America's historical firearm regulations. The case now returns to a lower court for further review. Article

Interesting Number : 12. The number of dispensaries suing the state of New York over a regulatory flip-flop that could force some to relocate or lose millions in investments. This comes after officials admitted they incorrectly measured the required 500-foot buffer zone from schools, now switching from an entrance-to-entrance measurement to a property-line measurement that puts 152 cannabis businesses out of compliance.  Article

Plugging the Gap : Snoop Dogg's art collection "Ashes to Art" sold for $148,100 at auction, with the top piece—featuring his signed 1993 LAPD mugshot and a partially smoked blunt encased in epoxy and marijuana resin—fetching $70,000. The seven-piece collection, created with artist Erica Kovitz, included other cannabis-themed works like "DoggyStyle Decoded" with an original CD, joint tip, and ashtray that sold for $16,500. Have a great weekend!
