Happy Friday!
Welcome back to The Weekly Roll. I hope everyone had a lovely week, as we turn the corner into the back half of summer! Here is what’s happening this week in cannabis and art:
Short Supply : Minnesota's legal cannabis dispensaries are preparing to open for recreational sales, but supply shortages could persist into 2026 due to limited cultivation capacity and regulatory bottlenecks. Currently, only the White Earth Band of Chippewa can legally supply recreational flower to non-tribal dispensaries, while just five non-tribal microbusiness cultivators have been licensed statewide. Gateway Crop : A new poll of 1,327 home cannabis cultivators found that 66% were inspired to start growing tomatoes after cultivating marijuana, with nearly a quarter saying they never grew tomatoes until years after their first cannabis plant. The survey suggests cannabis is a "gateway crop" rather than gateway drug, with millennials (62%) much more likely than baby boomers (29%) to grow marijuana before tomatoes. Article
Interesting Number : $702 million. Ohio's legal recreational marijuana market’s total sales during its first year of operation, with 109,706 pounds sold at an average price of $6.63 per gram. Despite the strong performance since sales began in August 2024, industry leaders say revenue fell short of initial projections of nearly $2 billion, partly due to ongoing public awareness gaps about legal cannabis availability. Returned Artifacts : Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg's office returned over 30 stolen antiquities to Spain, Italy, and Hungary this week, following investigations into several convicted art traffickers including Giacomo Medici and Robin Symes. Notable returned items include a 1st-century marble head of Alexander the Great stolen from Rome's archaeological museum, a WWII-looted Jesuit manuscript from 1675, and 6th-century Visigoth pendants previously sold to the Met.
