The Weekly Roll - June 13th 2025

Happy Friday!

Welcome back to The Weekly Roll. I hope everyone had a lovely week! Here is what’s happening this week in cannabis and art:

Mississippi Trailblazers : The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians approved a referendum on Tuesday that allows tribal leaders to explore cannabis legalization on their 35,000 acres across 10 counties in eastern Mississippi. The measure passed 1,367 to 1,110 and will enable the tribe to conduct a comprehensive study on both medical and adult-use cannabis reforms, potentially leading to cultivation and retail sales on tribal lands. US License Stabilization :  The U.S. cannabis licensing market stabilized in early 2025 with total active licenses growing less than 1% to 38,509, ending two years of decline. While some states like New Mexico saw 27% growth and California had its first increase in three years, the overall market is shifting from expansion to profitability as competition intensifies and fewer new businesses enter the space. Interesting Number :  1,200. The number of cannabis plants Bedfordshire Police seized from an industrial-scale growing operation in a Luton warehouse. The discovery at Camford Way in Sundon Park was made after UK Power Networks and the fire service alerted authorities, and it took officers two days to dismantle the illegal operation. The plants are worth over £1 million.  Article

Rhino Desk : A life-size bronze rhinoceros desk by François-Xavier Lalanne sold for $16.4 million at Sotheby's, more than tripling its $3-5 million estimate after a 13-minute bidding war. The sculptural desk, made of gold patinated bronze, brass and leather, demonstrates strong collector demand for rare Lalanne pieces despite a sluggish global art market. Article

Have a great weekend!
