The Weekly Roll January 23rd 2026

Happy Friday!

Welcome back to The Weekly Roll! I hope everyone had a lovely week, here is what’s happening this week in cannabis and art:

MA Recriminalization Advances : Massachusetts officials rejected a challenge to a ballot initiative that would repeal commercial marijuana sales, dismissing claims that signature gatherers used deceptive tactics. The measure now goes to the state legislature for consideration through May 5, with new polling showing nearly half of signers feel misled about its intent. If lawmakers don't act, the campaign would need additional signatures to reach the November ballot. Article

Final StandConnecticut's last medical-only cannabis dispensary, Bluepoint Wellness in Westport, plans to temporarily relocate within the town before opening a hybrid medical-recreational shop elsewhere after the town repeatedly blocked its conversion requests. The state's medical cannabis patient population has plummeted from nearly 49,000 to fewer than 32,000 since early 2023, with patients leaving for neighboring states offering cheaper prices and better product variety. Medical sales dropped from $129 million in 2023 to about $73 million in 2025, making medical-only operations increasingly difficult to sustain.  Article

Interesting Number: -$30.80. Cannabis prices in Massachusetts hit record lows in November with an eighth of flower dropping to $14.20—down from $45 four years ago—as oversupply from 120+ cultivators and nearly 400 dispensaries creates a "race to the bottom." While consumers benefit from the price decline, many retailers struggle to stay profitable, with 81 businesses surrendering licenses this year amid fierce competition and shops selling eighths for as low as $7. Industry experts warn prices could fall further, following trends in states like Oregon ($12), Michigan ($10.46), and California ($9.22), though potential federal rescheduling and state regulatory reforms offer some hope. Article

Silver Heist : Thieves stole over 300 "irreplaceable" silver objects from the Doesburg Silver Museum in the Netherlands early Wednesday, using a crowbar to force entry and shatter display cabinets. The collection, spanning 1700-1920 and valued at tens of thousands of dollars, includes historic mustard pots once used by Europe's elite. Museum officials fear the items may be melted down for their metal value despite being worth far more intact, as the heist follows a pattern of metal thefts driven by rising precious metal prices in Holland. Have a great weekend!
