The Weekly Roll January 30th 2026

Happy Friday!

Welcome back to The Weekly Roll! I hope everyone had a lovely week, here is what’s happening this week in cannabis and art:

No News from DOJ : The Justice Department has no updates on marijuana rescheduling over 40 days after President Trump's executive order directing Attorney General Pam Bondi to quickly move cannabis from Schedule I to Schedule III. While former AG nominee Matt Gaetz claimed the DEA is drafting a rescheduling rule "ASAP," confusion remains as a rule is already pending at DOJ. Experts warn the administrative process involves multiple steps including internal review and potential legal challenges, with NORML noting the process is "neither designed to be expeditious nor transparent." Cannabis in Dating : Just one in four Americans consider marijuana use a "red flag" in dating, with millennials (80%) and Gen Z adults (70%) particularly unbothered by cannabis consumption in potential partners, according to a new survey. Marijuana carried less stigma than cigarette smoking and was viewed more favorably than any substance except alcohol, with 68% saying relationships wouldn't be stronger if their partner quit using cannabis. The survey found 22% of dating Americans say their partner consumes cannabis daily, rising to 35% for Gen Z couples.  Article

Interesting Number: $35.9 Million. The total tax revenue Ohio's cannabis hosting communities received out of $103 million in total tax proceeds collected statewide since the market opened in 2024. Columbus led with $4.7 million, followed by Cincinnati ($2.5 million) and Dayton ($1.2 million), while Northeast Ohio's top earners were Canton ($1.1 million), Akron ($877,000), Cleveland ($803,000), and Lakewood ($790,000). Under Senate Bill 56, municipalities receive 36% of cannabis tax revenues to use as they see fit, with distributions now occurring monthly rather than quarterly. Article

Galleries Closed Today : Major galleries including Gagosian, David Zwirner, Pace, and dozens more will close Friday, January 30, joining a nationwide strike protesting expanded ICE operations and federal immigration tactics. The action marks rare political solidarity in the typically apolitical art world. Over 40 galleries from New York to Los Angeles—and even Paris—are participating in what organizers expect to be one of the largest civilian mobilizations in modern American history. Article

Have a great weekend!
