The Weekly Roll - April 25th 2025

Happy Friday!

Welcome back to The Weekly Roll. I hope everyone had a lovely week! Here is what’s happening this week in cannabis and art:

Michellin Strain : Two-Michelin-starred Lazy Bear restaurant has launched a custom cannabis strain called "Lazy Bear Reserve" in partnership with Sonoma Hills Farm. Chef David Barzelay and partner Colleen Booth spent three years developing this sativa strain, which features aromas of bay laurel, redwood, and Douglas fir. The product is available at dispensaries throughout the Bay Area, including one conveniently located across from the restaurant. Article

Alabama Stumbles : The Montgomery County Circuit Court has invalidated an "emergency rule" used to award Alabama medical cannabis licenses in December 2023, forcing previously approved businesses to restart the application process. Medical professionals argue the delay creates a health crisis for patients needing treatment, while opponents claim the ruling ensures fairness. AMCC Director John McMillan expressed frustration with the ongoing litigation, stating the commission remains focused on patient access. Article

Interesting Number : $3 Million. The sales jump in Ohio's legal market in the week leading up to the first 4/20 with recreational cannabis sales. Ohio's first legal cannabis holiday saw dispensary sales surge to over $20 million from April 13-19, representing a $3 million increase from previous weekly averages. Industry representatives from the Ohio Cannabis Coalition note the milestone as significant progress while citing advertising restrictions and higher pricing compared to neighboring Michigan as ongoing challenges for the state's emerging cannabis market. Stolen Helmet : Dutch police have arrested two more suspects in the theft of ancient Romanian gold artifacts from the Drents Museum, bringing the total arrests to seven. The most valuable stolen item, the Coțofenești helmet from 450 BCE, is made of solid gold, weighs over two pounds, features elaborate decorations, and is valued at €4.3 million ($4.9 million). Despite the recent arrests of men aged 20 and 18 from Heerhugowaard, the helmet and three golden bracelets, described as having "incalculable value" by Romania's Prime Minister, remain missing as authorities continue their investigation. Have a great weekend!
