Happy Friday!
Welcome back to The Weekly Roll. I hope everyone had a wonderful week, the days are getting longer! Here are some of the big stories this week in cannabis and art:
Progress in New Hampshire : New Hampshire lawmakers moved forward on Wednesday with a bill that would legalize possession of up to two ounces of marijuana for adults 21 and older, though retail sales would remain prohibited under the plan. The House Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee voted 9-7 to approve the legislation, which would also allow adults to possess up to 10 grams of concentrate and 2,000 milligrams of THC in other cannabis products. Rep. Alissandra Murray called the possession-only approach "a common sense compromise" that focuses on legalization without dealing with the more complex retail aspects of selling cannabis. Article
Ohio House Makes Counteroffer : Ohio House Republicans introduced a proposal to modify the state's recreational marijuana law that would maintain the current 12-plant home grow limit and 10% tax rate while reducing maximum THC levels from 90% to 70% in extracts. The bill differs from a Senate version by preserving more elements of the voter-approved law while still requiring all THC products to be sold only at dispensaries and redirecting tax revenue to Ohio's general fund. "Every product that is legal today will remain legal under this bill," said Rep. Brian Stewart, who emphasized they're "not touching any of the core parts of Issue Two" that voters passed with 57% support in 2023. Article
Interesting Number : $15. New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has proposed raising the special tax on cannabis from $2.50 per ounce to $15 per ounce in his budget address, aiming to fund violence intervention and social service programs with the additional $70 million in projected revenue. The tax increase comes just two months after the state Cannabis Regulatory Commission had already raised the rate from $1.24 to $2.50 per ounce, with Murphy's plan also extending taxation to intoxicating hemp products like delta-8 and delta-10 THC. Golden Toilet : Maurizio Cattelan's £4.8 million solid gold toilet "America" was stolen from Blenheim Palace just two days after going on display in September 2019, with one theft suspect having actually used the 18-carat functional artwork the day before the heist, describing it as "splendid." The 98kg toilet, which allowed exhibition visitors to book slots to use it in its cubicle, disappeared during an early morning raid and was insured for $6 million, with the gold alone worth approximately £2.8 million at the time according to court testimony.
