The Weekly Roll February 6th 2026

Happy Friday!

Welcome back to The Weekly Roll! I hope everyone had a lovely week, here is what’s happening this week in cannabis and art:

Big Brain Energy : A study of adults ages 40-77 found cannabis use was associated with larger brain volumes and better cognitive function, particularly among moderate users. Researchers examined brain regions related to learning, memory, and executive function, finding generally positive relationships, though one area showed reduced volume. The study's authors caution the findings are nuanced and complicated by unknown variables like cannabis potency and product composition. Article

Cannabis in Hospitals : A Virginia Senate committee unanimously approved a bill allowing medical marijuana use in hospitals, but only after the federal government completes its pending rescheduling of cannabis from Schedule I to Schedule III. The legislation would protect hospital staff from criminal penalties when storing, dispensing, or administering cannabis oil to patients with valid medical certifications. Separately, Virginia lawmakers are also advancing broader bills to legalize recreational cannabis sales, which now have majority voter support and backing from newly elected Governor Abigail Spanberger. Article

Interesting Number: 1st.  Anoka, Minnesota, opened the state's first government-run cannabis dispensary on Thursday, making it one of only a handful of municipal cannabis operations in the country. The city plans to use revenue from Anoka Cannabis Company to fund parks and reduce taxes, sourcing products from local tribal communities. While twelve other Minnesota cities applied for retail licenses, several have since abandoned their plans citing public health concerns and uncertainty about the state's cannabis rollout. Article

Uno Reverse : The Philadelphia Museum of Art reversed its controversial October rebrand back to its original name after just four months, following widespread mockery and trustee opposition. The museum will keep only its new griffin logo while abandoning the unpopular name change to "Philadelphia Art Museum." The failed rebrand coincided with the firing of director Sasha Suda amid allegations of financial misconduct and her subsequent lawsuit against the institution. Article

Have a great weekend!
