Happy Friday!
Welcome back to The Weekly Roll. I hope everyone had an amazing July 4th last weekend! Here is what’s happening this week in cannabis and art:
Senior Surge in Cannabis : Cannabis use among seniors has jumped 46% in two years, with older adults increasingly turning to it as natural medicine for chronic pain and sleep issues. While companies are starting to target this demographic with educational campaigns, many dispensaries still focus on younger customers, missing out on this growing market of health-conscious older users. New York Recall : New York State recalled three East End Flower Farm cannabis products (Secret #9, Lemon Haze, and Pure Michigan flower) after they failed pesticide testing when retested by a proper lab. Customers who bought these products should stop using them immediately and return them to their dispensary. While unfortunate, it is good that these types of issues are being noticed and corrected for the long term health of the industry. Article
Interesting Number : 111. The number of pounds of illegally transported cannabis found in trash bags during a California Highway Patrol traffic stop for speeding in Oakland. The driver was cited for unlawful transportation of cannabis for sale without proper licensing, highlighting that while personal use is legal in California, commercial transport requires proper permits. Mars on Earth : The largest known piece of Mars on Earth - a 54-pound meteorite called NWA 16788 - just sold for $5.3 million at Sotheby's auction to an anonymous buyer. Discovered in Niger in 2023, this rare Martian meteorite is 70% larger than the next biggest piece ever found, sparking debate between scientists who wish it were donated to museums versus collectors who argue the market incentivizes discoveries that advance research. Have a great weekend!
