Happy Friday!
Welcome back to The Weekly Roll! I hope everyone had a lovely week, here is what’s happening this week in cannabis and art:
Massachusetts Reform : The Massachusetts House unanimously passed legislation to double the adult marijuana possession limit from one to two ounces and restructure the Cannabis Control Commission, reducing it from five to three members. The bill also raises the license cap per entity from three to six and expands advertising permissions for dispensaries. It now heads to the Senate and then Governor Healey for signature. Article
Alabama Opening Day : Alabama's first-ever medical marijuana dispensary, Callie's Apothecary in Montgomery, is expected to serve its first patient on May 4, marking a major milestone for a program approved back in 2021. Three licensed dispensers with up to nine locations are expected to be open by summer, with all 12 potentially operational by Q4. So far, 66 medical cannabis cards have been issued and over 40 physicians are approved to prescribe. Article
Interesting Number : A state advisory report commissioned by Governor Josh Stein estimates North Carolina's illicit cannabis market at $3 billion annually — second only to Texas nationally. The council is urging lawmakers to legalize adult-use cannabis, projecting it could capture up to 60% of illicit market activity and generate significant tax revenue, though Republican legislative leaders have been dismissive of the findings. Article
Eiffel Staircase : A nearly nine-foot section of the original Eiffel Tower spiral staircase — 14 steps removed during a 1983 renovation — is heading to auction at Artcurial in Paris on May 21, with an estimate of $140,000–$175,000. The piece has been in the same private collection for over 40 years and was recently restored ahead of the sale. Article
Have a great weekend!
