Happy Friday!
Welcome back to The Weekly Roll! I hope everyone had a lovely week, here is what’s happening this week in cannabis and art:
Delay in VA : Governor Abigail Spanberger is asking the legislature to push back the launch of Virginia's regulated retail cannabis market from January to July 2027, citing the need for safer implementation. Her amendments also propose upgrading public marijuana use from a $25 civil fine to a criminal misdemeanor, drawing sharp criticism from reform advocates who warn the changes will disproportionately harm Black and brown communities. Hemp Salvation? : Senators Rand Paul and Amy Klobuchar are expected to introduce bipartisan legislation this week to prevent the federal recriminalization of hemp THC products, set to take effect in November under rules stemming from a law Trump signed late last year. The bill would allow states to opt out of the new federal restrictions and conduct interstate hemp commerce with one another. Article
Interesting Number : Pre-rolled joints have overtaken loose flower to become the top-selling cannabis product in the U.S., generating $3.6 billion in sales and 383 million units sold in 2025 — a nearly 10% revenue jump year-over-year. Infused pre-rolls are driving much of the growth, accounting for nearly half the category's revenue, with the market projected to surpass $4 billion in 2026. Article
Remembering Mosley : Sculptor Thaddeus Mosley, celebrated for his massive yet elegantly light abstractions carved from salvaged hardwoods, died in Pittsburgh at age 99. Though largely overlooked for decades while working a day job at the U.S. Postal Service, Mosley found mainstream recognition after his 2018 Carnegie International debut, with major museums including the Whitney and Guggenheim subsequently acquiring his work.
