The Weekly Roll - December 20th 2024

Happy Friday!

Welcome back to The Weekly Roll. I hope everyone is gearing up for an amazing holiday season next week. Take a look below to see what’s going on this week in cannabis and art:

Massachusetts Appoints Yet Another Director : The Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission has been without a permanent director since late 2023, but just offered the job to Travis Ahern. Ahern is currently the Town Manager of Holliston, MA, and used to work with the state’s Water Resources Authority Advisory Board. If he accepts the job, Ahern will face a big task in getting the CCC back on track, but he will have a huge opportunity to make a lot of progress for a market with lots of room for improvement.  Article

Pre-Rolls Yes, Ads No : The Ohio Division of Cannabis Control just released a new rule package that will help steer the growing recreational market in the state. In a state where pre-rolls and inhalables are not allowed on the medical side, one important rule proposed is to allow pre-rolls and “super pre-rolls” which contain infused or concentrated THC products. One cause for concern amongst the market is the proposition to ban all advertisements on billboards, TV, radio, or the internet if they have “a high likelihood of reaching people under the age of 18”. The rules are subject to a public comment period before they become final. Article

Interesting Number : 12. The number of new licenses Kentucky released, bringing their first round to a final 48. The State’s Office of Cannabis Management will not be awarding any new businesses permission to operate until the medical program sees significant expansion according to the governor. While many are excited to get the market opened, there is some concern over how many licenses were awarded to out-of-state parties, with only one of the awarded dispensaries containing only Kentucky residents.  Article

Stained Glass Artist Chosen for Notre Dame : Claire Taboure was announced as the artist designated to create the new stained glass windows for Paris’ Notre Dame Cathedral as part of its restoration. The French figurative artist was selected by President Emmanuel Macron and Archbishop, Laurent Ulrich, after being chosen as one of eight finalists by an artistic committee that saw 110 submissions. The French figurative artist now works out of Los Angeles and will collaborate with the Simon-Marq glass studio based in Reims for this project which will portray a beautiful message of unity. Article
