The Weekly Roll March 6th 2026

Happy Friday!

Welcome back to The Weekly Roll! I hope everyone had a lovely week, here is what’s happening this week in cannabis and art:

Oregon Hospice Care : Oregon's legislature passed HB 4142 with overwhelming bipartisan support, sending a bill to Governor Tina Kotek that would allow medical marijuana patients in hospices, palliative care, and residential facilities to access cannabis. The bill's sponsor emphasized it as a quality-of-life measure offering an alternative to opioids for end-of-life patients. Article

Michigan and Alaska Propose Tax Cuts : Michigan legislators are working to repeal a 24% wholesale cannabis tax that has already caused a 16% drop in retail sales and facility closures since taking effect January 1st. In Alaska, two competing bills aim to overhaul the state's $50-per-ounce cultivation tax, with proposals to either replace it with a 6% consumer tax or reduce it to $12 per ounce. Advocates in both states warn that without relief, the legal market will continue losing ground to illicit sellers. Article

Interesting Number : A new UNH poll shows 63% of Massachusetts likely voters oppose a 2026 ballot initiative to repeal the state's adult-use cannabis program, with only 20% in support. The measure, backed by Smart Approaches to Marijuana with $1.55 million in funding, would eliminate licensed cannabis operations and ban home cultivation. Opposition is broad across all demographics, though the initiative still has a path to the November ballot if lawmakers don't act by May 5. Article

Shipwreck Found in Lake Michigan : After decades of searching, 80-year-old shipwreck hunter Paul Ehorn has located the Lac La Belle, a luxury passenger steamer that sank during a storm in 1872, killing eight of the 53 people on board. Ehorn, who has uncovered 15 shipwrecks since 1965, used side-scan sonar to find the vessel resting upright in deep water, with much of its hull still intact. He will share video footage of the wreck at the 2026 Ghost Ships Festival in Manitowoc, Wisconsin on March 7th. Article

Have a great weekend!
