Happy Friday!
Welcome back to The Weekly Roll. I hope everyone had a lovely week! Here is what’s happening this week in cannabis and art:
O’Brien and Delays are Back : Shannon O'Brien returned to head Massachusetts' Cannabis Control Commission after winning a wrongful termination lawsuit against the state treasurer who fired her last year. Her first move was delaying social cannabis rules that would let people buy and consume weed at the same location, frustrating equity activists. The delay comes amid ongoing leadership drama and workplace issues that have plagued the commission since it started. Article
On Strike : Two cannabis worker strikes in Michigan and Pennsylvania are now the longest in industry history, lasting over three weeks each. The Michigan strike involves four workers protesting union-busting tactics, while Pennsylvania's involves eight workers seeking higher wages from profitable Green Thumb Industries. Both strikes highlight growing labor tensions as the cannabis industry faces market saturation and workers struggle with low pay. Article
Interesting Number : 24%. Michigan's new wholesale marijuana tax projected to raise $420 million yearly for road repairs, despite industry warnings that pot shops could close. The bipartisan vote was part of a budget deal to avoid government shutdown, with most funds going to local road fixes. Cannabis groups say the tax will drive customers to illegal dealers and force businesses to fail. Article
Egyptian Port : Archaeologists discovered a submerged port near Alexandria that may hold clues to Cleopatra's lost tomb. The underwater site, found 12 meters deep outside the Taposiris Magna temple complex, contains structures dating to Cleopatra's reign including columns and storage vessels. Researcher Kathleen Martinez theorizes Cleopatra was transported through an underground tunnel to this area before being entombed, with the tomb possibly now underwater due to earthquakes and rising sea levels.
