Happy Friday!
Welcome back to The Weekly Roll. I hope everyone had a lovely week! Here is what’s happening this week in cannabis and art:
Medical Proposed in Wisconsin : Wisconsin's Republican Senate President Mary Felzkowski has introduced a new medical marijuana legalization bill, though details haven't been released yet. Despite 67% of Wisconsin voters supporting cannabis reform and millions in tax revenue going to neighboring Illinois, the Republican-controlled legislature has repeatedly blocked legalization efforts. Michigan Fights Back : Michigan's cannabis industry is fighting House Bill 4951, which would add a 24% wholesale tax on top of existing 16% taxes, bringing the total to 40%. Detroit dispensary owners warn this could force smaller businesses to close and cause significant job losses, with the proposed tax aimed at funding highway repairs. Article
Interesting Number : 50%. The Trump administration's tariff on imports from India, which is threatening the cannabis pre-roll industry, which recorded $2.3 billion in sales last year. India supplies about half the world's pre-rolled cones, and the tariff could add 20-60 cents per multipack at retail, forcing operators to either absorb costs, raise prices, or find alternative suppliers with limited options. Italian Forgeries : Italian authorities seized 21 suspected Dalí forgeries from an exhibition in Parma after Spain's Salvador Dalí Foundation expressed doubts about their authenticity. The art crime squad became suspicious because the show featured only low-value lithographs and drawings rather than significant paintings, and organizers may face prosecution if the works are confirmed as fakes.
