The Weekly Roll May 8th 2026

Happy Friday!

Welcome back to The Weekly Roll! I hope everyone had a lovely week, here is what’s happening this week in cannabis and art:

Older Adults Turning to Cannabis Over Pharmaceuticals: A federally funded study in JAMA Network Open found that most older adults seeking cannabis do so to avoid pharmaceutical side effects or because other treatments have failed, with sleep, pain, and mental health being the top conditions they hope to address. Researchers called for better physician-patient conversations and clearer product guidance for this fast-growing demographic. Article

Cannabis MSOs Hit with Class-Action Lawsuit: Three major Illinois cannabis companies — Cresco Labs, Green Thumb, and Verano — were sued in federal court over allegedly deceptive marketing of health benefits for adult-use products. The suit, filed by an attorney affiliated with anti-legalization group Smart Approaches to Marijuana, seeks damages potentially comparable to the landmark Big Tobacco settlements. Article

Interesting Number : A 21-year-old was arrested at Portland International Airport after TSA flagged two suitcases containing over 40 pounds of marijuana he said he was bringing to Chicago to "make money." He now faces multiple charges including unlawful export and delivery of marijuana. Article

Venice Biennale Strike: Artists and cultural workers staged a daylong strike at the Venice Biennale on May 8 to protest Israel's participation, organized by the Art Not Genocide Alliance, which has gathered over 230 signatories. The action followed the resignation of the Biennale's jury, which had said it would not consider artists from countries accused of crimes against humanity for its top awards. Article

Have a great weekend!
